Abstract

The Institute of Geological Sciences has completed a geological survey of an area which includes the stratotype of the Wolstonian Stage of the British Quaternary. The stratigraphy of the glacial deposits is described, and some modifications to previous nomenclature are suggested. The sequence includes several formations not previously described in this area. Depositional environments are briefly discussed. The evidence for the age of the deposits is reviewed, and it is suggested that the type Wolstonian and type Anglian sequences may be equivalent.
