Abstract
Relationships within the genus Kentropyx are briefly discussed; three species groups are recognized, and a key to the species is presented. A new species of lizard, Kentropyx vanzoi, is described from Mato Grosso, Brasil. Although it is parapatric with a morphologically similar species, K. paulensis, it is distinct from the latter in having fewer numbers of femoral pores and unique characteristics of the dorsal striping pattern. The species is named for P. E. Vanzolini, one of Brasil's most noted herpetologists.
