Abstract

We have re-investigated the Cu(110)-(2 × 3)N adsorbate structure using a fully-dynamical low energy electron diffraction (LEED) intensity analysis (FD-LEED), and confirm the pseudo-(100) structure model. The strong corrugation of the topmost substrate layers was found to decrease monotonically in amplitude towards the bulk: 50% relative to the bulk interlayer spacing for the topmost reconstructed pseudo-(100) layer, 11% for the second, 10% for the third and 6% for the fourth. The layer separation oscillates periodically and approaches the bulk value between layers four and five.
