Abstract

Objective To investigate the surgical skill and clinical value of a new technique of laparoscopic peritoneal vaginal plastic surgery (peritoneum pull-down method) which was performed to treat congenital absence of vagina. Methods The clinical data of 35 patients with congenital absence of vagina who were treated by new surgical method of laparoscopic vaginoplasty were retrospectively analyzed. The operating time, values for blood loss, requirement for drainage tube, exhaust time, requirement for analgesic drugs, duration of hospitalization, cost of treatment, length of the reconstructed vagina, postoperative rehospitalization and postoperative female sexual function index score were observed. Results The surgery was uneventful in all 35 patients. The mean operating time was (67±9)min, mean value for blood loss was (57±11)ml, requirement for drainage tube was 5.7%, exhaust time was (23±7)h, rate of requirement for analgesic drugs was 17.1%, mean duration of hospitalization was (9.9±1.2)d, mean cost of hospitalization was (14 016±1 640) yuan, length of the reconstructed vagina was (8.6±0.6)cm, rate of postoperative rehospitalization was 2.9% at 2 months and 5.7% at 6 months, and mean postoperative female sexual function index score was 26.7±2.1. Conclusions The peritoneum pull-down vaginoplasty has advantages of simple operation, safety, minimally invasion and good effect. It is the preferred and recommended method to reconstruct the vagina for obstetrics and gynecology clinicians. Key words: Peritoneum pull-down; Vaginoplasty; New surgical method
