Abstract

Sampling with a 10-foot Isaacs-Kidd midwater trawl has produced an extensive series of bathypelagic fishes. Among these collections are three examples of a new species of lanternfish (family Myctophidae), agreeing with the genus Lampadena as characterized by Fraser-Brunner (1949), but differing from all known species of the genus in having a Dn rather than a Vn photophore. Four additional specimens from the collections of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) have been utilized in description of the new form. These specimens were also taken with a 10foot Isaacs-Kidd midwater trawl.
