Abstract

Vitex rotundifolia is a folk medicinal plant that has been used to treat various diseases. We have previously found that the extract of its leaves shows cytotoxic and epithelial mesenchymal transition inhibitory effect in HHUA endometrial cells. In this study, a new labdane-type diterpenoid 1 was isolated and its structure was elucidated by NMR and CD spectroscopic analysis followed by density functional theory calculations. Compound 1 showed cytotoxicity toward HHUA cells with an IC50 value of 6.4 μM, but did not inhibit phorbol ester-induced epithelial mesenchymal transition nor lipopolysaccharide-stimulated nitric oxide production.
