Abstract

We find that Ce(Ni0.25In1.75) crystallizes inthe hexagonal AlB2-type structurewith lattice parameters a = 0.4850(5) nm and c = 0.3908(5) nm. Magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity and low-temperaturespecific heat data reveal that the bulk phase transition at3.7 ± 0.2 Kin Ce(Ni0.25In1.75) is to an antiferromagnetic state. The magnetic contribution to the resistivityρmag ofCe(Ni0.25In1.75) increasesas ln(T) when temperature is lowered from room temperature and reaches a plateau at9 K, followed by a rapid decrease around 4 K. These results associated witha reduction of the Ce magnetic moment and of the magnetic entropy atTN suggestthat Ce(Ni0.25In1.75) could be a Kondo antiferromagnet. The Kondo temperature is estimated to be of order 6 K.
