Abstract

In each small range of frequency, most IP phase spectra can be represented by a linear function of the logarithm of frequency, and most inductive coupling phase spectra can be represented by a few terms in a power series in frequency. Here some new two- or three-frequency decoupling techniques are developed. They are simple and effective, and can give approximate IP phase spectral behaviour which is helpful to field data interpretation. Therefore they can be used in practice to replace the older linear or quadratic phase fitting techniques. A three-frequency smoothing technique is suggested, which can be used to decrease the effect of stochastic noise and survey error during decoupling.
