Abstract
High dispersion spectra of the T Tauri star RU Lupi are analysed to obtain information on the physical conditions in the line emitting region. A non-uniform temperature is indicated through the region. The profiles of the Balmer lines are analysed to yield the distance and velocity of the region where these lines are produced, while a new analysis of the fluorescence-enhanced lines gives the range of values of electron, proton and neutral hydrogen densities. From the forbidden lines inferences are made on the values of the electron density and temperature in the lower density region. Finally the existence is suggested of several distinct line emitting regions with well determined physical conditions.
