Abstract

This paper proposes a new interactive control algorithm based on voltage references to improvise the performance of Distribution Static Compensator (DSTATCOM) for power quality improvement. The proposed control algorithm has advantages of reduction in computational burden and reduction of switching losses when compared to traditional methods. This scheme ensures unity power factor if the Point of Common Coupling (PCC) voltages are within the tolerable range, called as Current Control Mode (CCM). Otherwise, regulates the PCC voltages called Voltage Control Mode (VCM) operation. An adaptive DC voltage control has been proposed to improve the DSTATCOM performance, in terms of switching losses and efficiency. To show the efficacy of the proposed algorithm, simulation and experimental studies have been performed.
