Abstract
This chapter presents reports related to a new hymenolepid tapeworm from wild turkeys of Arkansas. The reported cestodes of turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) in the United States comprise 13 known species in six genera. Although the majority of these tapeworms infect both domestic and wild turkeys, a few have been recorded from only the wild host. Viscera of 126 wild turkeys from five counties in Arkansas and one county in Mississippi were examined for the presence of this hymenolepid. Infected birds were found in Grant and Hot Springs counties, Arkansas, with an incidence of 91% and 50%, respectively. Infected birds were not found in Arkansas, Desha, or Lee counties, Arkansas, or in Bolivar country, Mississippi.
