Abstract

This paper proposes a new hybrid-excited (HE) flux reversal arc permanent magnet (PM) machine (PS-HE-FRAPMM) having partitioned stators which could be applied on large telescope application. The proposed PS-HE-FRAPMM combines the arc PM machine, the stator-PM machine, and the HE machine, which incorporates the merits of high torque, low cogging torque, and wide flux adjustment capability. The machine topology, operation principle, and rotor mechanical analysis of the proposed PS-HE-FRAPMM are first addressed. Then, the different slot-rotor pole combinations are comprehensively investigated. Moreover, the main structural parameters of the proposed machine are optimized for maximizing the torque and minimizing the torque ripple. Finally, the electromagnetic performances of both the proposed PS-HE-FRAPMM and single-stator HE-FRAPMM (SS-HE-FRAPMM) are comprehensively evaluated and compared. The comparison results show that compared with the SS-HE-FRAPMM, the proposed PS-HE-FRAPMM exhibits higher torque capability, lower torque ripple, and relatively wider flux adjustment capability.
