Abstract
A new high temperature ion source for on-line isotope separation applications has been developed. Off-line efficiencies of up to 13% for Xe have been measured. On-line efficiencies of 3% for Tl while operating in the plasma mode and about 30% for Fr while operating in the thermal-ionization mode have been obtained. The release of Tl from this source has been determined to occur with a half-life of about 0.6 s and Fr release was measured to be as short as 0.8 s.
