Abstract
A high-speed electromechanical shutter with a blind speed of 7 m s-1 is described. Two versions have been built: as a nonfocal-plane wide-aperture shutter, which will open or close in 75 mu s for approximately 5 s, and as a spectrograph shutter which will open and close a slit width of 50 mu m in approximately 15 mu s. The shutter incorporates a brass flag soldered to two Nichrome wires which undergo thermal expansion following a capacitor discharge of 450 J.
