Abstract
InTe has been investigated by high pressure X-ray diffraction up to 340 kbar. InTe undergoes a structural phase transition from the TlSe-type (B37) phase to the NaCl-type (B1) phase at about 50 kbar. We have discovered a further pressure-induced structural phase transition from the NaCl-type to the CsCl-type (B2) phase at about 150 kbar. Attempts have been made to understand the stabilities of these phases on the basis of the structural map for the nine-electrons A N B 9− N compounds.
