Abstract

A thermodynamic phenomenon which can be observed in aqueous solutions of hydrophilic organic solvents, i.e., a completely miscible binary liquid mixture of water and an organic solvent (e.g., ethanol + 1-propanol), reveals a liquid-liquid phase split when pressurized with a ‘near critical’ gas. Using methyl anthranilate, the authors report on a new high-pressure liquid-liquid extraction process.
