Abstract

During the course of isolating fungi from soil samples collected in Ceylon, an isolate was found typical of the genus Sordaria. Singleascospore cultures were self-sterile but cross-fertile. Additionally, each monoascosporic culture produced sclerotium-like structures. Since no known species of Sordaria produces a sclerotium-like stage (3, 4, 7, 8), this characteristic is sufficient to distinguish the isolate which is here described as a new species.
