Abstract
2-[Hydroxy(methoxycarbonyl)methyl]-2-(methoxycarbonyl)-1-phenyl-1,2-dihydropyrimidines react with acetic anhydride to give 2-methoxycarbonyl pyrroles. A reaction intermediate has been isolated and a mechanism is proposed for the reaction process
