Abstract
The response of a closed system to external fields is studied in the formalism of the projection operator. To simplify the analysis a method is proposed for obtaining strange evolution exponentials without the interacting liouvillian. The total response tensor is expressed in terms of new retarded two-time Green functions. The equations of motion for the new Green funcitons are derived and the results are compared with the usual theories.
