Abstract

ABSTRACT Based on specimens collected from the Yemeni shore of the Red Sea, Yemeninassoides inusitatus gen. & sp. nov. is here described and figured. The shell morphology suggests that this species belongs to the family Nassariidae Iredale, 1916. The new taxon is characterised by light shell, base finely spirally lyrate, open umbilicus and multispiral non-keeled protoconch sculptured by spiral cords and arcuate axial riblets. The combination of these morphological features is so far unique and makes the new taxon easily distinguishable from all other known species and genera in the family Nassariidae. https://zoobank.org/References/0E009334-D9C7-4CC7-9A06-466582E1F263
