Abstract
A new general cavity theory for photons is derived that takes into account secondary electron scattering at the cavity boundaries. The proposed model is used to calculate both the effective stopping power ratio as well as the dose distribution inside plane parallel cavities of lithium fluoride surrounded by aluminium, copper or lead. A comparison is made between the proposed model, the well known Burlin model, and experimental data.
