Abstract
Recent studies suggest that hydrogen sulfide (H2S), like nitric oxide ( NO ) and carbon monoxide ( CO ), is the third gaseous signal molecule. It can influence many signal transductive pathways. H2S also can open ATP-sensitive K+ (KATP) channels, reduce oxidative stress, decrease inflammation and preserve mitochondrial function. This review summarizes recent progress in the cardioprotective effect of H2S which can ameliorate ischemia-reperfusion injury in relevant with above mentioned protective mechanisms. Key words: hydrogen sulfide; ischemia-reperfusion injury; cardioprotection
