Abstract

In 2001, Harvey and Richey called for a more detailed look into effective supply chain management selection. The present manuscript proposes a multiple-selection model for selecting supply chain managers that accounts for the identified competencies needed to succeed in the increasingly global and technology driven world of supply chain management. The researchers in the present study begin with general mental ability tests as the baseline competency needed for supply chain managers; but the research also proposes that specific personality variables, need for achievement and adaptability, will further provide predictive validity in the selection of qualified managers. The researchers propose that supply chain managers need all three competencies to perform based on the perspectives of relationship marketing, relational contracting, networking, and communications.
