Abstract

A new four-node quadrilateral plate bending element is presented for the analysis of thin and moderately thick plates of general plan form. The element has three degrees of freedom at the corners. Numerical experiments are given and they indicate that the element does not ‘lock’ for thin plates and gives excellent results for both thin and moderately thick plates.
