Abstract

ABSTRACT Here, a new genus and species, Qibinius maculatus gen. et sp. nov., is described and illustrated mainly based on forewing impressions from the Middle–Upper Jurassic Yan’an Formation in Yan’an City, Shaanxi Province, and the Yangshuzhuang Formation in Jiyuan City, Henan Province, which are located in Ordos Basin and Jiyuan Basin of northern China, respectively. Qibinius bears a long, multi-branched vein A1 of tegmen, adding valuable information on morphological diversity of Mesozoic Cicadomorpha, but raises some questions about taxonomic units. The new discovery enriches the documented palaeodiversity of fossil insects in the Yan’an and Yangshuzhuang formations of northern China, and also indicates that the Ordos and Jiyuan basins were interconnected in the mid-Jurassic.
