Abstract

With the growing concern over harmonics and their effects due to the increasing use of solid state switching devices in modern power systems, there is an increasing interest in developing new and more efficient harmonic elimination schemes. This paper presents a new scheme to mitigate the harmonics present in the system. The method uses the flux cancellation and injection capabilities of transformers, along with the existing filter designs, to produce an improved performance for elimination of unwanted harmonics and noise. The robustness to time varying signals, noncharacteristic harmonics, and high-power noise makes this method highly competitive. The performance of the proposed scheme is confirmed both by simulation on real power system harmonic data and laboratory scale experimentation.
