Abstract

A carbonatite plug discovered in the Savukoski district in North Finland covering an area of more than 20 km 2 and cutting through the pre-Karelian granite gneiss basement, consists mainly of sövite and is surrounded by a fenitized aureole. Considerable regolithic apatite concentrations are known and pyrochlore is common. Accessory minerals and elements are those typical of carbonatites. Radiometric datings give 350 m. y.
