Abstract

This paper discusses a new transputer-based fault-tolerant configuration for avionics two-lane systems for gas-turbine engines. The transputer is ideally suited to build a fault-tolerant multi-processing network since it has many parallel processing features. The new configuration, which consists of eight transputers, is called the dual monitor dual lane (DMDL) system. Its performance is tested in detail by simulation and the focus is on fault tolerance. It has higher reliability than the overlapping triad (OLT) two-lane system discussed in the literature. It is also seen that the response time of the system for reconfiguring in the presence of faults is good.
