Abstract

Digital still cameras use a color filter array to capture the colors of a scene and hence require color interpolation to convert a raw image to a full color image by estimating the missing color components of each pixel from its neighbors, also called as CFA Demosaicing. A new method for color interpolation is proposed in this paper. The proposed method suppresses undesirable artifacts around line edges by determining line edge patterns and interpolating missing pixels along detected directions. Directional interpolation with finer edge orientations is used to further improve the visual clarity of the interpolated images. Detailed experimental results are shown to demonstrate the strengths and effectiveness of the proposed method.
