Abstract

A directional protection scheme based on not the frequency domain but the time domain analysis is presented. The time domain analysis of a faulted network provides a Volterra's integral equation of the first kinds, whose solution plays a central role in detecting a fault direction. This paper studies and shows the effectiveness of the integral equational approach for the line protection. The scheme essentially needs a numerical calculation capability, and it will be suitable for a digital processor-based relaying use.
