Abstract

In this paper, tire pressure is estimated to help in avoiding critical situations that may occur to the vehicle due to the tire pressure loss. For that purpose, tire effective radius and longitudinal stiffness are estimated using a high order sliding mode (SM) observer. Simulations are made firstly in the absence of faults, results in this case are compared to the real measures, and secondly in the presence of faults, as an escape (sudden puncture) or a total failure in the tire pressure, in this case results are compared to that of a validated model. The analysis is made on the tire pressure and the yaw angle at the vehicle centre of gravity. A diagnosis strategy is proposed based on the online estimation of the tire pressure, this strategy previews, in the case of tire pressure escape, the approximate time remains before arriving to critical and dangerous situations.
