Abstract

To meet the demands for higher accuracy in the measurement of forces in tribological experiments a force transducer has been developed which allows the simultaneous measurement of friction force, normal force, and, via an electronic divider, the friction coefficient. The device consists essentially of four bending rods notched at four points to localize strains monitored at these points by strain gauges. Tilting and bending of the probe is avoided by this construction. The details, performance and formulae for dimensioning are given.
