Abstract

Summary A thin layer electrochemical cell is described. The thin layer is formed between the working electrode and a rigid microporous glass diaphragm in a modified variable geometry infrared cell. As a consequence of the design, the thin layer is well defined and the potential is uniform over the whole surface of the working electrode and simple theoretical equations may be used. The results from various electrochemical experiments using this cell are shown to agree well with theory and the cell has been applied to the study of the silver(II)-water reaction.
