Abstract

A new derivatization reaction was developed for the characterization of organic acids by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry in the highly sensitive positive-ion mode, using N,N′-dicyclohexylcarbodimide and N,N′-dimethylethylenediamine. Suitability of the reaction was demonstrated on different types of organic acids. When selected-ion monitoring was applied, the detection limit was at the low femtomol level. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
