Abstract

Abstract A new genus and species, Galathocrypta acaudata, infesting the galatheid Munidopsis erinaceus is described based on a pair collected from the outer continental slope off the Coatzacoalcos River, southwestern Gulf of Mexico, at a depth of 502 m. The female in the new genus differs from those of its most similar genera Pseudione, Pleurocryptella, and Parapleurocryptella in having a maxilliped with an unarticulated palp and no uropods. Males of Galathocrypta acaudata lack pereomeral ventral tubercules, maxillipedal palps, pleopods, and uropods.
