Abstract

This paper introduced a new AVO inversion method for seismic data processing. By introducing the relation between the variation of pre-stack seismic response amplitude versus incident angle and formation elastic parameter, the rock's elastic parameters as density, P-wave velocity, S-wave velocity and Poisson ratio are obtained through mathematical calculation and can be further used in lithology analysis and detection of gas hydrate. The experiments shows that five attributes are sensitive to the geophysical characteristics of gas hydrate reservoir and its boundary, such as intercept, Poisson ratio, fluid factor, product of gradient with intercept and relative coefficient, product of gradient with symbol of intercept. The first sample of gas hydrate acquired in the survey affirmed the feasibility and applicability of AVO inversion in gas hydrate exploration.
