Abstract

THIS cryoextractor is a small, slender, ophthalmic-sized instrument that is simple in construction, lightweight, well balanced, trouble free, and portable. It is sterilized by flash autoclaving and utilizes a commercial coolant. The instrument consists of the following parts (Fig 1): (1) a small pencil-thin instrument with silver probe; (2) coaxial tubing with metal connector (Luer-Lok) attached to (3) the coolant in an aerosol container with its reusable valve. The instrument is a slender cylinder of almost transparent polypropylene, threeeighths inch in diameter and five inches in length. It has a pure silver probe (2 X 10 mm) and heat sink for rapid heat transfer. The barrel contains a chamber into which the liquid Freon flows and pools. The coolant is transferred from the aerosol container to the chamber via the inner lumen of the coaxial tube. The pooled coolant boils in the chamber, and the vaporized gas passes through the
