Abstract

In this paper, a theoretical analysis of laminar mixed convection around a rotating sphere in a stream is presented. The results show the effects of the viscous dissipation in the boundary layer. A new correlation for the average Nusselt (Sherwood) number is presented for a Prandtl (Schmidt) number ranging from 0.7 to 2730 and negligible dissipative effects. This correlation is validated with numerical and experimental results. It can be used for the entire mixed convection regime, under buoyancy assisting flow and uniform wall temperature conditions.
