Abstract

This paper presents a novel design of compact circular polarization microstrip antenna for the global positioning system (GPS) and dedicated short-rang communication (DSRC) applications. It consists of two parts: the truncated square patch operates in left-hand circular polarization (LHCP) at around 5.888 GHz for DSRC applications. Moreover, two open-loop square ring resonators with a T-shaped feed structure are for GPS system at 1.575 GHz with right-hand circular polarization (RHCP). The overall volume is only 55 × 55 × 3.2mm3(Patch size 30 × 30 × 3.2mm3). Hence, this compact antenna design is suitable for mounting on vehicle that requires both GPS and DSRC services.
