Abstract

According to single crystal data ( a = 1107.59(7) pm; space group I 4 ̄ 3m ; Z = 2; four-circle diffractometer PW 1100, Ag Kα; 304 I 0 ( hkl); R = 6.0% and R w = 6.3%) Na 24In 5O 15 crystallizes with a new structure type that may be derived from that of Na 2O by doubling of the lattice constant (2 × 554 = 1108 pm compared with 1107.59(7) pm) and reordering the cations and anions. The Indium-centred tetrahedra [In2In1 4] ≡ [In 5] groups (“clusters”) with d[ In1- In2] = 274 pm are characteristic.
