Since Texas is a major livestockproducing state, the occurrence of Pithomyces chartarum in peanut plants, in the soil, and on grasses could be economically important, especially since peanut hulls are being used for livestock feed. Research is currently being pursued in an attempt to learn whether or not this organism is responsible for the photosensitization of cattle in Texas.
