Abstract

A new catalytic polarographic system for the determination of trace amounts of tungsten is described. It is found that the tungsten-2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) complex yields a sensitive catalytic hydrogen wave at −1.10 V ( vs. SCE) in strongly acidic medium. The peak height is a linear function of tungsten concentration over the range 0.004–1.4 μg/ml in 0.9 M H 2SO 4-20 mg/ml NaCl-0.01 μg/ml MBT medium. The method can be applied for determination of trace amounts of tungsten in geochemical materials.
