Abstract

A boundary element method is developed for the analysis of thick plates. The behaviour of the plate is described by Reissner's equations which permit the satisfaction of three boundary conditions. The solution is expressed in terms of two potentials, one biharmonic and one Bessel's. The potentials are established from their integral representations after the solution of six boundary equations, three integral and three differential. Numerical results are presented for various edge conditions and are compared against analytical or finite element solutions to illustrate the accuracy and the effectiveness of the proposed method.
