Abstract

The absence of a rapidly available sensitive diagnostic test represents an important limitation in the management of patients with suspected stroke. The aim of the present study was to investigate the accuracy of a novel test that measures blood-borne biomarkers (Triage® Stroke Panel, TSP, Biosite Inc.) and to compare its diagnostic utility with that of standardized stroke scales used in the triage of patients with suspected stroke. Methods: Consecutive patients with suspected stroke presenting to the emergency department of three Italian medical centers underwent ‘triage’ by a dedicated nurse and had blood drawn for TSP testing.
