Abstract

Summary 1. The technique of heel cord advancement for the treatment of the spastic equinus deformity has been described, including a possible theoretical explanation for its success. 2. The operation is especially suited to the growing child, since it obviates the need for postoperative bracing, in contrast to tendo Achillis lengthening in which postoperative bracing during the growth years is necessary to prevent recurrent deformity. 3. The results of heel cord advancement are at least as good as those achieved with tendo Achillis lengthening.
