Abstract

Abstract This paper addresses the self-excited vibration in rolling processes, particularly in the case of rolling mill drive system. A mathematical model is developed which accounts the non-linearity of the system due to the rolling slippage for friction present between the work piece and the roller. To predicate the self-excited vibration, the condition under which the self-excited vibration occurs is derived which is related to the rolling normal force and the rolling speed. As the self-excited vibration causes instantaneous breakage of a system, the study reported here will thus be very useful and of significance.
