Abstract

ABSTRACT This paper describes a novel approach to bit selection based on the use of Specific Energy. Since the 1960s, Specific Energy has been used in many rock-working studies as a measure of rock-cutting efficiency. Two previously derived equations are examined using laboratory data and a modified equation proposed. When applied to field data this equation has been shown to be a potential aid in bit selection.
