Abstract

The objective in photodynamic therapy (PDT) is to deliver the light dose required for tumor eradication to hematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) localized in all regions of the tumor. A dosimetry calculation has been carried out for front surface delivery, based on the diffusion model of radiative transfer. The results are expressed in terms of the optical properties of the tumor tissue and the tissue concentration of HPD. Correction factors for photobleaching of the HPD have been estimated. The objective in photodynamic therapy (PDT) is to deliver the light dose required for tumor eradication to hematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) localized in all regions of the tumor.
