Abstract

A novel analytical approach to predict eddy current losses in large power transformer walls is proposed. Based upon the knowledge of the incident flux to the rectangular plate, a curve fit to a double Fourier series is obtained. This closed formula representation is used to solve directly Maxwell's diffusion equation using the physical boundary conditions on the plate. A comparison of the results with experimental data is given. Finally there is a discussion on the limitations and applicability of the method.
