Abstract

The recent developments in image and digital signal processing allows the use of these technique for the analysis of photographic multiexposures in particle image velocymetry (PIV), that is usually carried out by means of Young’s fringes technique. In this paper a new technique, based on particle image color processing, is presented for the determination of the third velocity component in PIV. Fully computer controlled systems for the realization of photographic multiexposures and for Young’s fringes analysis are also described. Moreover, a digital version of 1-D orthogonal compression technique is presented. The recent developments in image and digital signal processing allows the use of these technique for the analysis of photographic multiexposures in particle image velocymetry (PIV), that is usually carried out by means of Young’s fringes technique.
